LACEY, NJ — The controversial wind farm to be built off the shore of Ocean City, Ocean Wind 1, will have a substation built in Lacey Township, Danish energy company Orsted said as it was announced that contracts were signed to connect the offshore energy farm to the energy grid on land.
The contracts awarded include two high-voltage substations and nearly 9 miles of underground cable that will connect the offshore wind farm to the onshore electric grid, according to a recent report by AP News.
One substation will be installed in Upper Township. The other will be installed at the former Oyster Creek power plant, which will connect to a nearby First Energy substation.
An underground cable will run to the substation from a landfall point. The landfall point will either be near Oyster Creek or in one of two spots in Waretown.
Ocean Wind 1 hired JINGOLI Power, LLC and Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company, Inc. to do the substation building and to run power lines from the wind farm to land. Read More: Wind Farm Developers Hire Companies To Connect To Power Grid: Report
