A former call centre in Radcliffe could become a warehouse if newly-lodged plans are approved.

Applicant Dumers Lane Ltd is seeking permission to change the use of the existing Capital call centre, which provided services for Tesco Mobile, into the unit.

In mid-2021, Capita relocated from the premises and the Dumers Lane site has laid vacant since then.

The application said the loss of jobs associated with the relocation of Capita's services has had a "detrimental" impact on the locality.

However, it said the decision to switch to a hybrid way of working and therefore reduce office requirements by many companies has limited the future appeal of this site for a office use.

The planning statement said: "It is anticipated that the proposal to change the use of this premises into a high quality B2/B8 use will breathe new life into the premises and attract high quality occupiers from within or outside of the borough."

The site is 3.2-acres and comprises of a large industrial building as a well as a multi-storey car park and additional exterior parking.

It was designed and constructed as a warehouse in 1999 and currently comprises a high-bay warehouse building which had been utilised as a sales and customer service contact centre.

The accommodation provides 87,854 sq ft of flexible space across ground and two upper floors. The accommodation is a steel portal frame construction with concrete floors.

Proposals will include the stripping out and removal of existing internal structures which are no longer required, associated with the former call centre use. New openings including loading doors and delivery doors would be provided.

A total of 135 parking bays, including three EV charging bays ancAd seven disabled parking spaces, are proposed.

A new site entrance and exit would also be created, including the erection of sliding security gates. A designated pedestrian entrance and biker shelter for 12 bikes are also included.
