A Volo woman suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday evening when her vehicle struck a guardrail and then collided with an oncoming SUV, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.
The collision happened at about 6:55 p.m. on Illinois Route 60 near Wilson Road in the Volo area, police said.
Police said they found the woman, 44, in the roadway. They are trying to determine whether she was ejected, or exited her 2015 Hyundai Accent after the collision and then collapsed.
She was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical, life-threatening injuries, police said.
The woman was headed west on Route 60 when her car struck a guardrail on the north side of the road. Her vehicle then entered the oncoming lane and struck a Subaru Outback.
The Outback driver, a 68-year-old Wonder Lake woman, and her passenger, an 18-year-old Woodstock resident, were treated and released at the scene, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
