Quality issues and supply chain delays have delayed installation of the last four turbines at Equinor’s pioneering Norwegian project to power oil and gas facilities

Supply chain bottlenecks and earlier issues with steel quality have forced Equinor to delay completion of its pioneering 88-megawatt Hywind Tampen floating wind farm.

The Norwegian major said four of the project's 11 turbine tower sections are now only expected to be delivered in September 2022, which is too late for the installation weather window for this year.

Completion of the project is now expected to take place in the second quarter of 2023, in the Norwegian spring

Siemens Gamesa is the supplier of the project’s towers, nacelles and blades, which are all subject to rigid quality control measures, Equinor said.
