Marshall School Board reviews PN building bids - Marshall Democrat-News

The Marshall Public Schools Board of Education held a meeting on Monday night, June 27, where Brian Wilcoxson, director of SCCC, presented the following Practical Nursing building bids:

— Electrical work — bids were received from Marshall Electrical Contracting Inc. for $14,645.80 and JJ’s Electrical for $21,000.

— Interior doors and windows — one bid was received from Dugan’s Glass as follows: interior solid core steel frame doors — $22,214.39 and interior storefront windows and doors — $12,540.

According to the unofficial meeting minutes, the board unanimously approved to accept the electrical bid from Marshall Electrical Contracting Inc. The board unanimously approved the bid from Dugan’s Glass for a total amount of $34,754.39.

In other news, Superintendent Carol Maher reported July 1 is the beginning of the new fiscal year and the board must vote during the June meeting to approve the new budget. The minutes explained the bookkeeping involved is to “actualize” the former budget by transferring actual ending figures from the current budget into the “2022- 2023 MPS Working Budget.”

On a motion made by Board Treasurer Erin Meyer, seconded by board member Ellen Lance, the board approved the final 2021-2022 actualized budget as the 2022-2023 actualized budget as the 2022- 2023 working budget. The motion carried on the following vote:

— Ayes: Meyer, Board President Bryon Jacques, Vice President Matt Smith, board members Harry Carrell, Ellen Lance and Brad Shepard

— Abstain: Board member Jack Lenz

After conducting open business, the board unanimously approved to go into closed session to discuss personnel matters. On a motion made by Meyer, seconded by Lance, the board accepted the resignations of the following:

— Lauren Quick, Marshall High School science teacher

— Jordan Lane, MHS industrial arts teacher

— Adym Cooney, MHS vice principal

— Kayla Gorrell, assistant girls’ soccer coach

— Michelle Wagaman, EC special education para

The motion carried on a 6-1 roll call vote:

— Ayes: Meyer, Lance, Board President Bryon Jacques, board members Harry Carrell, Jack Lenz and Brad Shepard

— Naye: Board Vice President Matt Smith

The board approved 20-21 new employees. The motion carried on a 6-1 roll call vote. Carrell abstained while other board members voted yes. The full list of names can be viewed on the Marshall School District website.

The minutes said the board approved the employment of Hannah Viets, Vo Ag. teacher and FFA advisor. The vote was 5-2, with Jacques and Smith voting no. Board members Carrell, Lenz, Lance, Meyer and Shepard voted yes.

Lastly, the board discussed legal, real estate, and personnel issues. The minutes said no action was taken on June 27.
