An accident in the westbound lanes of Highway 403 in Brantford resulted in delays for motorists mid-afternoon Wednesday.

Brant OPP say a mobile crane truck blew a tire and struck the guardrail along the centre median.

A lengthy section of guardrail was destroyed leading up to, and just beyond, the North Park Street overpass leaving debris on the roadway.

Police and Brantford Fire diverted traffic to pass on the right shoulder of the highway, resulting in a backup of traffic.

OPP Const. Conrad Vitalis said MTO will carry out repairs to the guardrail on Thursday.

No injuries were reported, and tow trucks were on scene just before 5 p.m. to remove the vehicle.
